I created this Homemade Cruella DeVille costume in 2008. I LOVE Halloween and always start early, I wanted to be something scary and recognizable. So I started at Value Village and found a black satin sweetheart neckline dress, I bought it thinking I knew I would use it for something. Finally my Granny came up with the idea to do Cruella DeVille. So I set out to find the pieces.
I first went to Wal-Mart and bought the dalmatian material, because I knew it would be too hot to wear a fur coat all night. I pinned it in an over the shoulder shawl type style, then sewed it quickly. Next I went and got a red belt, red gloves and some jewelery. My friend had red shoes that I borrowed from her.
My biggest dilemma was the hair (I have blonde hair and my hairstylist forbid me from using the black spray because she was afraid it would stain!)… so I found a white bob style wig and my friend put it on his head and let me spray half of it with that black hair spray. Then I teased the heck out of it to make it stand on end. It turned out fabulous!
The finishing touches were the cigarette holder which I made out of a straw and taped a real cigarette to the end, and of course a dalmatian that I carried around all night! The homemade Cruella DeVille costume was a huge hit!! So much so that a friend of mine borrowed it and wore it last year!
Its so cool and creative the way she used her imagination and created an awesome costume. I’m thinking of stealing some of her ideas lol.
