My son is not into the normal store bought costumes, so he wanted a Homemade Davy Crockett Costume. He already had the play gun, knife, and we found the coonskin cap and water can at a yard sale.
I bought the tan faux suede material and trim on the clearance section at Wal-Mart. I measured a shirt and jeans that already and then just cut the material to fit. After the shirt and pants were made, I added the trim on both and then cut fringes up the side of the legs and arms.
He loves the costume and now can play Davy Crockett or cowboy and Indians because he also turns it into an Indian costume. He just trades in the hat for a feather head dress and adds his bow. I am by no means a seamstress, basic sewing knowledge required.
Total cost was $10.00 for material and trim and $10.00 for the hat and water can. I loved making it for him and no one else has it! Home made costumes are the best!
Just the thing I was looking for to help get started on my sons Davy Crockett costume. Thanks!
