For the past 2 years my Halloween costumes have been a little lame, so I decided this year I was going to go all out. Having watched Beetle Juice earlier this year I knew I needed to be the dead receptionist! I bought the dress and the shoes. I sewed sparkly tulle over a shaped piece of armature wire for the cape.
For the sash, I ironed on letters in an appropriate font on an existing blank sash. The wig was the tricky part; I couldn’t find one that was styled correctly, so I bought one with curly pigtails and restyled it into an up-do, securing it with bobby pins, thread and a lot of intense hair spray.
The makeup was definitely fun, but time consuming. I used a water based turquoise color and set it with powder and a waterproof spray. For the face I used the same but painted in the highlights and shadows with a cream-based makeup so I wouldn’t look like a green blob. Oh and I applied prosthetic for the wrist slashes, but you can’t see them in this pic.
So here it is, my Homemade Dead Receptionist from Beetlejuice Costume !
This rocks!! You are costume goddess!!
I’ve been trying to figure out the makeup and can’t get it exact….would you mind helping and being really specific with what you used? Please? I really want to get the same look as you got! Thanks! You look awesome!
yes the best makeup I’ve seen for this costume online. PLEASE POST HOW YOU DID IT!!!
So I am defending my title at a costume contest this year and thought that this concept will do it! The only thing I am worried about is the makeup — do you have exactly what was used. I will also be outside so I like that you waterproofed the make up as well. Any help would be great as the makeup for this costume is the most important part.
Beautiful costume. You are the only one I’ve seen do it just right. I am also worried about the makeup. Which brand? Also did you have to mis to get the bluish green? I plan to buy theatre quality… ben nye, mehron? Thnx so much
