Halloween was soon approaching and I was asking my daughter what she wanted to be this year. I mentioned that with her new haircut a Homemade Dead Snow White Costume would be perfect. She replied with a roll of her eyes, being at the ripe old age of 8, she is far too mature for a princess costume! I said okay, well, how about a “Dead Snow White”? I then saw the sparkle come back to those big beautiful eyes!
We decided to have her “die” in a way that went along with the story. The woodsman was told by the evil Queen to follow Snow White into the woods and return with her heart as proof that she was dead. Well in the story the woodsman creeped up behind Snow White and raised his axe in the air, at which time she turned around, saw him and let out a scream. He then lowered his axe and told her to run away and never come back.
So in our “story” the woodsman followed through with the Queens demands! To create this I bought a Snow White costume, an axe, and some make-up. The axe was a little tricky to attach but we did it! I cut a hole in a shallow plastic bowl and glued it to a piece of cardboard wrapped in fabric. Then I cut a slit in the bowl and put the axe in it. I painted the entire thing in blood red paint(left over from my kitchen). Then I made a strap out of fabric and hot glue (I don’t sew) and slipped it through the back of the fabric.
Last I tied it diagonally across her chest. We have had a lot of with this costume and my daughter is just thrilled!
