To make this Homemade Edward Scissorhands Costume for my 9 year old son I headed to a couple of local thrift stores to purchase a leather jacket & several belts and to Home Depot for some furniture nails, rings and washers.
First I cut the jacket’s sides, arms and wrists and sewed them with an upholstery needle and thread. Then I hot glued belts around and over the jacket, avoiding zipper. I used snaps between zipper and belt buckle to keep belts in place. I also hot glued belt pieces to arms of jacket.
Next, I hot glued tops of furniture nails and washers to belts. I either sewed or used black electrical tape to keep rings in place. Velcro was used to hold leather collar and keep the belt on his leg secure.
He wore a pair of black skinny jeans and an old pair of Converse that we spray painted black. I bought a female black wig at Wal-Mart for $6 that I cut, teased and sprayed with Aqua Net to hold.
For make-up I used a tube of white face cream make-up, grayish-purple eye shadow, black liner for lips and a couple of scars I bought online.
I didn’t want to attempt the scissor hands so I purchased them online for about $25.
He was a hit at school and on Halloween!
