I made these homemade Ghostbusters and StayPuft Marshmallow Man costumes for my husband and three sons.
The Ghostbusters were easy to put together, although the proton packs took a bit of work.
I bought tan-colored shirts and pants from our local thrift store, made iron transfers for the Ghostbusters’ patches on each arm and the name tags.
At our local dollar store, we found black rubber gloves, black elbow pads and safety goggles which we lined inside with black craft foam. These items did not cost much.
The proton packs were all made from cardboard boxes spray-painted black, used foil cake pans, battery-operated lights and a ton of stuff my husband had laying around his workshop: hoses, lights, old electrical outlets, switches, garden hose, audio wires.
We also printed out some pictures on label paper of motherboards and lights, just to give it more electronic effects. We also attached a flashlight, which my sons could turn on and off, at the end of their guns/hoses.
The Stay Puff costume was a quick add on to go for the gold, so to speak. My husband threw on a white shirt and pants; we cut a square of blue fabric, attached a red knot of fabric to the front and cut a hole in the middle. We had an old chef’s hat, around the base of which we attached a piece of blue fabric and, on the top of which we attached a blue button with red tassels, cut from fabric.
Everyone loved the costumes and we got stopped quite a few times while out trick-or-treating.
Love the last picture! Will be such a memorable family picture in the future!
