My daughter announced at 7pm that she had to dress up as a pirate the next day!!! Of course I had nothing prepared and it was too late to buy anything, so thanks to sites like yours on the internet I was able to get some great ideas.
First off I found a denim skirt and shirt that my daughter had in her cupboard. Then I made another skirt to go over the top made up of scrap lining cut into triangles overlapping one another in 2 different colours and sewn together at the waist with some elastic. I left the edges raw to make it look more tattered. I then made a wide belt from black satin with 3 buttonholes on either side at the centre front and threaded some thin white ribbon through to make it looked like it was laced up.
To finish off the homemade girls pirate costume, my daughter already had boots and borrowed one of my large hoop earrings and I made her a head scarf out of more scrap red lining.
I was really happy with the finished look and she also won the prize for best dressed. Not bad considering I had hardly any notice :)
My daughter is in a play with a lot of pirates, so a store bought costume wouldn’t work — can’t have everyone dressed alike. And she is really particular about the look. So I have looked at hundreds of pictures and ideas, and yours is the best. And my daughter agrees. Thank you for sharing.
We are using a black skirt, already tattered at the bottom from an old costume.
Using blue satin for head and skirt — she is Blue Beard in the play — and the rest like you did.
You are wonderfully creative!
Thank you for sharing your creative ideas. My daughter has a concert tonight and because of you and your daughter I will be using your ideas. Thank you again. :)
