Coolest DIY Gumball Machine Costume

My son had two loves this year. One was guarters and the other was gum. Anytime he saw a gumball machine he asked for a quarter. So that is when I came up with him being a Homemade Gumball Machine Costume for Halloween.

I’m not the type that just makes a gumball machine costume, it had to work. So after some thinking I made it work. My son would have to put the gumballs in a tub. Inside the costume I put three pockets, two on the sides where the gumballs were and one where the money fell into.

To do that I put cardboard with a hole the size of the quarter. A nob was put outside the cardboard to twist. I, as a mom,,love to take my kids to a party and have them be the only one in that costume, and my kids love all the people asking them about the costume. He also made $7 from people wanting to see how it worked, and handed out about 300 gumballs.

  1. Very clever and detailed. Not many people can say that their costume was a walking, working model of what they were dressed as. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again you are amazing!!!!!!

  2. My son was a gumball machine too, but his did not have real gum. Yours turned out excellent!! We had 4 others to make so we had to draw the line somewhere. You did a great job!!

  3. Hi there I’m wondering what kind of plastic did you use to wrap around the gumball circumference? Is it hard plastic? I’m thinking you used a plastic bag in order to hold in the gumballs around his head. A bit confused as I’m designing a gumball costume for my daughter. Hope you can enlighten me.
