This costume idea came from seeing a child’s picnic table costume and developed into a much scarier idea. First, I ordered an orange 120″ round banquet size table cloth. I wanted the costume to go all the way to the floor.
My husband cut a large round, about 36″, piece of heavyweight cardboard from an appliance box that I found. He cut a hole for my head in the center. Underneath the round cardboard he secured small wood slats, about 3″ wide, to the underside of the table for stability. He attached the tablecloth to the round with a staple gun and glue. Around the center of the hole we secured (with staples) a string of purple battery operated lights. He secured the small on/off switch for the lights onto the slat underneath. This allowed me to turn the lights on and off from under the costume. We used paper Halloween plates and plastic cutler for the place settings on top, along with blood goblets that came from a Halloween store. These were glued on and a small nail was used to keep these secure. I put gummy worms on the plates with glue. Finally, a cheap Dracula cape, some fangs, and theatrical paint made up my face. I made a small sign “Head Of the Table” (like you’d see at a wedding with the table number), stapled it to a drinking straw (wrapped in tape) and taped it a black headband I wore. It turned out really cool!
