I started out last year with an online purchased Jack Sparrow costume from “the bay” and was just never satisfied with it. So for the past year (from Oct 2009 to Oct 2010) I have been modifying it and replacing all the key pieces to become either more movie accurate or just plain made from better materials. Every single piece of this costume has been hand touched, painted, replaced, or in some way modified by me and my wife. The only parts left from the original store bought costume are the three fabric items, the shirt, waistcoat and the pants.
The shirt was tea dyed, the waistcoat had the entire back and buttons replaced and the pants have been bleached of color (they were blue) and been dyed three times over. In fact the work on it took so much research I ended up building an entire wiki dedicated to the process and all the labor that was involved so that the next person had a better resource than I did.
My belts and boots are real leather. The compass, gun and sword are all toys that have been repainted. My wig was made from 4 different wigs sewn together. My wrist-wraps and waist belts were handmade by me. My sash is a modified curtain. I hand modified my mustache and do all my makeup myself.

This is by far one of the best costumes i have seen! i know how hard it is to come by liable costumes that look authentic, my whole costume is handmade as well, and i looked to yours for reference :) kudos to a fellow jack sparrow!
pretty good costume! I don’t have a year but only a month for halloween and I honestly don’t like all those cheesy costumes from party city and all that. I’m wanting stuff like this but i only have 1 month. any suggestions? I can’t spend a lot of money either. by the way I sort of look like Johhny depp, well i get that a lot so that might help. hehe! I can’t wait for halloween. :)
