Coolest Homemade John Deere Halloween Costume

This Homemade John Deere Halloween Costume was inspired by my father and grandpa (who is no longer with us) who collect and love John Deere tractors. This project is all cardboard with a piece of window screen on the front.

I started by taking cardboard and creating an opening that my son could fit into. From there I took more cardboard and created the look of a John Deere Model D tractor. I folded the sides of cardboard onto the side and glued them on. More cardboard was used for the hood which I folded over and glued onto the base of the tractor.

The engine is made of boxes which we painted John Deere green and glued into the middle. The wheels have a 3-D effect. I put cardboard boxes together, traced circles, and cut out the triangles inside of the wheels. Then they were painted John Deere yellow, with the inside a flat black. Because the front end is so big, I put wheels on the front, so my son would be able to walk along with it. We attached a John Deere steering wheel that my son can spin around.

The letters were black stickers purchased at the local big box store. We spray painted them John Deere yellow. The front is made of cardboard and a piece of window screen. We attached suspenders that my son puts over his shoulders and lifts the back end up to make it go.

It is the cutest thing ever to watch him walk down the street with it. This project was a lot of fun and took many, many, many hours to make. It is a great joy to see the smile on my son every time he puts it on and makes it go.
