Years ago we read a suggestion in Exceptional Parent magazine to incorporate the wheelchair into the Halloween costume. We’ve had lots of fun doing just that in making this Ladybug Wheelchair Costume Idea!
Sarah loved ladybugs so we made her into one for Halloween! I bought a pattern for the cape and hood and made the cape out of felt. The dots were also felt and the black line down the middle of the cape was thin braid. The hood was also made from felt with antennae made from pipe cleaners and Styrofoam balls rolled in black paint. We just put the cape over Sarah backwards so it covered the wheelchair.
The cape and hood (minus the dots, black line and antennae) were used another year as Little Red Riding Hood. And the hood was used one year (with a red pipe cleaner added) as the cherry on top of a Ben & Jerry’s banana split.
