My idea for these Homemade Leg Lamp and Ralphie from A Christmas Story Costumes comes from the coolest Christmas movie ever – “A Christmas Story”. I had actually previously made the Major Award Lamp and it sits in my window every holiday season! To make it as a costume was harder than I imagined.
I was torn between having both legs in fishnet or having one leg in black tights and the other in fishnet (like the lamp). I also asked myself: Do I make the lampshade my whole upper torso, or do I keep it like the lamp and make it a skirt? I needed it to be family friendly.
I made a hoop skirt slip with glow sticks as my hoop. I slid the glow sticks in a specific sleeve that I added to my slip and connected them to make a big circle. My skirt was made using gold velvet fabric. I hot-glued the fringe on the outside. With my skirt over the hoop slip, it looked like a lampshade and glowed around the bottom because of the glow sticks.
My husband was Ralphie in the pink bunny suit. I still owe him for wearing that! I actually used a flat pink sheet and drew around him on the floor as a pattern. I added a little more for seam allowance. I attempted to make a hood and got dollar store gloves and ears. I made some little bunny shoe covers and had 3D glasses with popped-out lenses.
Cost of the costumes:
$1-gloves
$1-bunny ears
$3-glow sicks
$3-fishnet stockings
$4-fringe for skirt
$4-material for skirt
I want a skirt for my self and I am 6’2 290 and wanted the bunny costume hubby might be a lil short for my size, was wondering if u sell the lamp skirt??
Thanks Tucker
