My family is a big fan of Harry Potter, so much so that this was the 3rd year my son wanted to dress up as Harry. So I came up with the idea to make the costume a little bit different… why not a homemade Lego Harry Potter Halloween costume idea? We watched lots of YouTube videos of Lego Harry Potter, so I decided to go for it!
The body of the costume was fairly easy… I just formed the top using cardboard, I covered it with a gray sheet, and then drew on the Gryffindor crest and the shirt design. Then I used cardboard to form the bottom of the costume, which proved to be quite a bit more difficult! I tried to include all the details Lego minifigures have, like the holes in the back of their ‘legs’, and their square, block-like ‘feet’.
Coming up with the idea for the head was a bit more tricky. A friend suggested the bucket (I was going to attempt to make a head out of, you guessed it, cardboard! LOL). Then I spent days trying to come up with an idea for the hair… what to use that would be shiny and helmet like? Spray-foam insulation. I sprayed it onto the bucket, formed it a little after it was dry, spray painted it black and voila! Harry Potter has hair :-)
This homemade Lego Harry Potter Halloween costume idea was a lot of work, but totally worth it! My son (he is 9) loved it, and we got loads of compliments :)
Very Very Cool Costume!!!
Knowbody would have a clue who’s underneath, so it’s gotta be FUN!
Lots of work, but looks great!
A winner for any Harry Potter fans for sure.
