This Homemade Loofah Halloween Costume is simple to make, costs about $35 and gets rave reviews from all that see it. I won prizes at work and a Halloween party! I used 30 yards of netting from Joanne’s fabric store (had a coupon for 40% off), got a $3.99 t shirt there and safety pins as well. Get at least the 1 ½ inch size as the smaller pins are harder to use. We probably used 50-70 pins.
One person loops the netting on the outside of the shirt and the second person, pins the netting from the inside of the shirt. Our loops were between 4-5” tall. We didn’t cut the netting – it is just continually pinned on the shirt. Start at the bottom, on the front and pin all the way around back and then start another row.
We fluffed the loops when we were done.
I added a homemade sales tag on the loop of rope. I just searched for “bar code” in my clip art, pasted that in and then added: Bath and Body Works, Signature Collection, Loofah.
I work at a high school. The girls all knew right away what I was. Most of the boys had to be given hints. If I called it a ‘scrubbie’, they seemed to understand.
