Coolest Homemade Luigi Halloween Costume

My son wanted to be Luigi for Halloween. I purchased the overalls and hat (both new) on EBay – total of $25 including shipping (not bad). A green shirt for $4 and white gloves for $1 at WalMart, and bought fake black fur to make the mustache and black hair and a piece of yellow foamboard to make the buttons at a craft store for a total of $3. I ended up putting this together for under $35.

To make the hair, I cut and pinned a strip of the black fur inside the back of the hat, and cut out sideburns and pinned them inside to the sides of the hat. I glued a strand of clear jewelry elastic to the back of the mustache and tied it around the back of my son’s head. When I put the mustache on my son, I placed the elastic over the sideburns to hold them down, and hid the elastic under the fake hair. I colored his eyebrows with black liner pencil.

To attach the yellow buttons to the overall straps, I used 2 white twist-ties on each button. I punched 4 small holes in each button, and criss-crossed the 2 twist-ties over each other and threaded an end through each hole. I twisted the ends around the clasp on each strap.

Overall, it was a very simple Homemade Luigi Halloween Costume to put together. He loved his costume and it was a big hit. We got compliments everywhere we went.
