Mario, Princess Toadstool, Toad, Toadette, Wario, and King Boo battle it out on the streets of Honolulu. Not an original concept, but we like to think the execution was a success. For the most part, the characters were easy to recreate. Creativity played a role in making the spherical shape of King Boo, Toad, and Toadstool. For the large sphere that is King Boo’s body, I used paper mache to cover an inflated beach ball.
After eight or nine layers it was strong enough to cut holes for my head, body and arms. I wore a golden mask to represent the King’s crown. His face was drawn on with a sharpie and tongue was cut from felt. The same basic principle was used for Toad and Toadette’s mushroom cap hats. Instead it was Japanese lamps under the paper mache. We’ve seen other cart designs all over the internet. We crafted realistic looking carts using cardboard, paper tubes, felt, and aluminum foil. All this held together by hot glue and tape. Assembly took place on the day of Halloween and we barely made it out on time. Glue was still drying in transport. At a busy block party in downtown Honolulu we were met with much praise and many photo requests, making all the stress and frustration of crafting these Homemade Mario Kart Character Group Costumes disappear.
HOW DID YOU MAKE THE CARTS EXACTLY?! I love them and I want to make them for my son’s Mario Bros birthday party. PLEASE HELP! thank you!
