Coolest Homemade Mr. Potato Head Pregnant Belly Costume

I was very pregnant on Halloween and was searching for a great Halloween idea that would be simple, easy and inexpensive, yet super creative. My husband actually had this idea of a Mr. Potato Head Pregnant Belly Costume though and I figured it couldn’t get much easier and it ended up being a HUGE hit! I tied for best Halloween costume at work and the kids trick-or-treating that night all got a huge kick out of it too!

I just took a black long sleeve t-shirt and cut a hole for my tummy. It ended up gaping a little so I stuck double-sided tape on some points to keep it to my skin. I bought the darkest foundation I could buy and put that all over my belly and then took parts from a Mr. Potato Head toy and stuck it on with sticky Velcro to my stomach. It took a few different types of adhesives to find one that would work on both the toy parts and my skin, but I’m sure if I had experimented ahead of time I could have found some even better adhesive options (I didn’t try it ahead of time though). Some of the parts would pop off when I sat down and when I drove to work with the seat belt so I had to re-apply a few of them once I arrived, but as long as I was standing and walking around they stayed on without a problem. I had SO many comments everywhere I went that afternoon.

Items needed:
– Black t-shirt
– Dark foundation
– Mr. Potato Head toy
– Adhesive

Super easy, quick and inexpensive too! Plus you have a future toy for your little peanut later on!

  1. I love this idea and want to do it. Did you cut the stick parts off of the pieces before gluing them on? Like the part that goes into the potato when the kids are playing with it? Just curious bc it looks like it but then the toy wouldn’t be usable afterwards. Thanks!
