Devin and Dyanna are brother & sister – Devin is almost 8 and Dyanna is 6. Along with their many interests, they also enjoy playing games on their Nintendo Wii, sometimes playing as a team, other times playing against each other as rivals. For Halloween 2009, they wanted to be something unique for Halloween. We therefore agreed that dressing up as Nintendo Wii and Nunchuk controllers would be fun and would, at the same time, make a statement about their personalities and interests.
The Homemade Nintendo Wii Remote and Nunchuck Controllers Costumes were completely homemade and constructed almost 100% from recycled materials. Corrugated cardboard was used for the main structure of each costume, while posterboard was used for the front and back of the Nunchuck. We added wood glue to hold it all together, some printouts of shapes that replicate the individual face buttons and a Styrofoam/posterboard sandwich disc on a paper-towel tube for the joystick. As a result, fairly representative scale examples of both controllers were achieved.
The costumes cost less than $15 to create and they took about 12 hours of time spread across a week to complete. As a side benefit, the cardboard enclosures provided some protection against the chilly Chicago winds as the kids went trick-or-treating this Halloween. They also got to wear their coats under the costumes so we didn’t have to worry about covering up their outfits with jackets.
All in all, these made for a fun Halloween – the kids got dozens of compliments on their costumes and were the hit of the neighborhood.
I really liked the costume idea,I work for Nintendo and this year is our anniversary so we are having a costume party, this is a great project and I cannot wait to show everybody this picture!!!
