Creative DIY Oompa Loompa Costume

I was a big hit at the party in my Homemade Oompa Loompa Costume. I got the idea from this website and thought I could pull it off. I don’t sew but I thought I could manage straight stitches on my machine.

I started with a very large pair of women’s white cotton capris that I found at WalMart on the clearance rack for maybe $10. To give them the Oompa Loopa shape which is bigger in the hips than calves, I sewed a straight stitch up the sides, making a curve at the hips. I bought a long wide piece of elastic at the fabric store to make the suspenders and then sewed them to the waistband of the pants. I bought four large buttons, glued brown fabric to them and then sewed them to the waistband, front and back.

Using fabric glue, I attached white felt strips to the neck and wrists of a brown turtleneck and to my brown knee socks. I bought white and brown yarn and made pom poms for my sneakers. White gloves finished it off. I actually sprayed my hair green with hair-spray paint and styled it with the Oompa curl in the front. I painted my face orange,my eyebrows white and I was an Oopma Loompa! Thanks for the idea for a winning costume! Comfortable too!
