I needed a creative, but easy to make costume for my work party and decided to go with the Orbit Girl. You know… “Fabulous, Orbit cleans another dirty mouth” and “Dirty mouth, clean it up”… all in the English accent of course.
I owned the white romper already but you could use any type of all white outfit (ie. shorts and t-shirt, sweater and pants, etc.). I then added 2 different color blue belts to tie it in to the blue and white Orbit theme.
One of the most important parts of this homemade Orbit girl costume is the neck scarf! The Orbit Girl wears a neck scarf in every commercial. I picked this one up at a consignment store for $7. For my Orbit badge, I printed out a picture of the Orbit’s label, cut out the “O”, super glued it on to a piece of cardboard, and then super glued a safety pin to the back of the cardboard… voila, instant Orbit badge.
I built the giant Orbit box to really make sure everyone knew exactly who I was dressed up as. I found an old box in the attic and wrapped it in bright blue wrapping paper. Then I used tissue paper (any blue pattern would work) to make the triangle design. There are so many different types of Orbit packages that it really gives you a lot of freedom here. I printed out the Orbit letters, cut them out and glued them on to the box as well.
To make the star on the top right corner, I bought a piece of thick silver scrapbooking paper and cut it into the shape I wanted. The finishing touches on my giant gum package: a string so I could wear it instead of carrying it all day, and a circle saying the phrase from the popular Orbit commercial “Who are you calling a cootie queen, you lint licker.”
Add a white headband, white gloves, white shoes and knee-socks, pick up a few packs of Orbit gum, work on your English accent and you are good to go! Fabulous!
that is funny. Great idea!
