I love peacocks. So, naturally, I wanted to be a peacock for Halloween. When I went online to purchase a Peacock Costume, all I could find was one style that was completely cheesy (think $10 Vegas showgirl costume with painted on feathers, yuck). So I just decided to make my own.
First, I picked out a greenish-blue dress that was already hanging in my closet. It was the perfect color for what I was looking for.
Second, I needed the feathers for the tail. I was originally going to buy individual feathers and fashion them into a fan shape. As I was brainstorming how to get them to that shape I thought of using a decorative fan and just glue the feathers to it. Then the light bulb went off! I just looked on eBay and found a decorative fan made with the feathers already! (Not to mention that cost me $20 premade and very thick with feathers when feathers easily cost $1 each and I would have to put it together.)
Third, I had to attach the feathers to my dress. So I just bought a pretty silver belt and slipped it through the middle of the feather fan. I just belted it high on my waist. The belt also made it easier to take on and off when riding in the car or whatnot.
Last, add silver shoes, peacock feather earrings, blue eyeshadow and a little dose of glitter and VOILA! homemade peacock costume!
