After being inspired by several peacock costumes on this site, I decided to make my Homemade Peacock Unique Halloween Costume Idea. I wanted to come back and share my results.
I bought the dress at Macy’s. I ordered 50 feathers (30”-35”) online for $20. Originally, I tried to sew and glue the feathers onto the front of my dress, but they were weirdly spaced out when I put it on after. I simplified it by gluing 5 feathers onto a piece a wood painted turquoise. I stuck a pin on the back of it and pinned it to the front of my dress.
For the tail, I cut out a Y shape from a cardboard box. I kind of held the feathers up to my back to see how tall I wanted them to be. I glued them in two rows on each side so it would look the same from the front and back (about 36 feathers here). All of the gluing I did was with a hot glue gun. To attach it to my dress, I just put it down the back of my dress (under my bra, too) and it stayed. It was a little scratchy with all of the ends of the feathers, so if you can cover it with felt or something, that might be better.
Lastly, I painted my nails turquoise and used turquoise, purple, and light blue eyeshadow + rhinestones on the corners. Oh, and I put my hair in a French braid then tucked the bottom under. I wanted to do a French twist, but that just wasn’t happening.
I hope this helps!
