Me and my girl friends kids are best buds… they are the real life Pebbles and Bam Bam! We decided to make our own costumes for the kids and it only cost us about $10 for both, you cant beat that!
For these homemade Pebbles and Bam Bam toddler costume ideas I bought 2 yards of fabric and had PLENTY left over, but if your like us (newbee crafters) you may as well spring for the extra fabric for ‘practice’, elastic for Bam Bams bottoms and some hem tape.. that’s right, no sewing required! One strip of faux fur, and of course bones, one for Pebbles hair and one for Bams outfit.
Pebbles: fold fabric in half, hold up to little one to get a measurement of how wide you need to cut and how deep to cut for neck line (don’t worry if its not perfect..w e really couldn’t get the kids to sit still, but it worked) then on the folded seam cut semi circle for the neck then on each side straight down so that it just looks like a tank top dress. When you open the fabric make sure the hole is big enough to fit over her head, then just slap some hem tape on each side iron it down and presto, a dress for Pebbles.
We took thin pieces of extra fabric and tied bows around the sleeves to make cuter. Fold dress over in half twice and cut out triangles, when you open it, perfect triangles across the bottom.
Bam Bam: fold fabric in half and cut into to look like a skirt, let the folded side act as one side of the skirt so you only half to use the hem tape on one side, now we need to add elastic, fold over top of skirt leave a little space, so you can stick the elastic in, lay piece of hem tape down and iron. My friend’s husband taped one end of the elastic to the end of a thin paintbrush (pen works to) and feed it through then tie both ends together then slap hem tape on open flap and iron on. I did sew the faux fur strip on diagonally to the skirt then used left over elastic to tie the (dog)bone on.
It was cool out so pebbles wore black tights and a shirt under and Bam Bam had on black pants and white t. After we were done, it was so worth it… a great experience for sure!
