My 7 year old daughter had a hard time picking a costume this year. She is too big for a kids store bought costume, and too young to wear the “teen” costumes… She told me she wanted to be a cupcake so here is what I did…
First, I bought thick silver fabric for the “cupcake liner”. I used a sewing machine to stitch the ends to make a “skirt” and then I bought about 10 yards of pink tulle for the frosting. I hand sewed the tulle to the silver skirt and then stitched the tulle – making layer upon layer until I got the puffy look I wanted. I used sparkly pipe cleaners for the sprinkles and hot glued them to the tulle.
I also added two pink straps so the homemade pink cupcake with sprinkles costume could sit on her shoulders. She wore a pink leotard with silver tights underneath. She begged for the hot pink wig, I added blush to her cheeks and sparkle lip gloss and then spray glittered her all over… Cutest costume in the class I think!
Oh and I made the costume the night before her class party… I think it took 3 hours total…
