I decided to try my hand at making my daughter’s homemade pretty peacock Halloween costume idea this year.
I made an oblong circle skirt, so it was short in the front and long in the back, out of a shiny satin material, and lined with a matching dark blue cotton. I then bought a couple of boas at the local dollar store and sewed them around the bottom of the skirt. The petticoat is made from strips of dark green, light green, purple, and blue tulle that I tied to a band of elastic, like a tutu. I used a matching blue bodysuit for her top so she would stay relatively warm.
For the tail, I glued peacock feathers to a fan and sewed it to the back of the skirt, and tied a ribbon around the handle part of the fan so it wouldn’t show. As a finishing touch I added a peacock headband that I bought at a local accessories store.

would you make this for someone else and how much would you charge
Hi – I am looking to make a similar costume. Approximately how many peacock feathers did you use? Where did you purchase them? By the way I live near you in Warren County NJ. Thanks!
This costume is amazing Jaime! Thanks for posting your creativity. My 7 year old wants to be a peacock for halloween. So excited to get to work on this.
Beautiful job on the tail! I didn’t realize how popular Peacocks are for Halloween. I’m making a similar tail for my 7 year old granddaughter’s Peacock costume and I can only hope mine turns out so well! I’m looking for ideas for what I could make to cover her feet that would help blend them in. Have a great time with your little Peacock! :}
