I wanted something big and dramatic for Halloween, original, but still pretty, so I decided to make a gigantic queen of hearts ballgown type thing. The Homemade Queen of Hearts Halloween Costume was super easy to make, surprisingly.
I used red velor for the skirt with a white silk front. I sewed red satin hearts on the front with gold embroidery threat for effect and little framing swirls below. The top part was made of black satin and a black shiny fabric with faint, fine, practically invisible gold lines that added a subtle texture.
I sewed a giant red heart on the chest which mirrors the shape of the corset, this was also surrounded in gold embroidery. The back of the top laced up in gold ribbon. I filled my huge skirt out with a 7 hoop skirt made out of 3mm steel craft wire, mesh, and muslin.
I got a huge number of complements and won two competitions with this costume! It was an absolute nightmare trying to waitress in it though.
this is the best queen of hearts costume I’ve
seen, ever! I totally want that dress.
any way you could share your pattern?
It turned out wonderful! Did you follow a certain pattern for this project? I’m hoping to find something to go as the queen of hearts myself!
Thanks,
Tiffany
