Coolest Homemade Safari Girl Captured by Gorilla Halloween Costume

This great optical illusion costume is a safari tourist captured by a gorilla. The trick to this illusion is that she is wearing the gorilla legs while the legs in the cage are fake. The torso of the gorilla is attached to the cage which is harnessed onto the girl. The key to comfort and distribution of weight is in the thick shoulder strap pads.

To make the cage I used 1 1/2″ PVC pipes cut down to 2 1/2 feet each and used PVC connectors. The same PVC piping was used to make the gorilla’s spine so that its torso could be bolted to the cage. This spine was also attached to a styrofoam ball inside the gorilla head for a sturdy and indestructible upper body. The legs in the cage, as well as the arms and shoulders of gorilla, were shaped from foam insulation tubes and then the costume was filled with styrofoam peanuts where needed. Finally, the gorilla hands, as well as the fake legs and shoes, were glued to the cage using Gorilla Glue.

Hope you like it!

  2. I love this costume it looks great! Is this a pre-made purchased gorilla costume? I am going to try and do this w/ Cat in the Hat (that I purchased) holding Thing 1. Did you cut a slit in the front of the gorilla where the “real” person comes out?
