I went to college without a firm idea on what I was gonna be that year. I had an idea a few months ago, but I couldn’t remember it, so I figured if I couldn’t remember it by October, that I would make a Homemade Samara Halloween Costume from “The Ring”. “The Ring” is one of my favorite movies, and when I floated the idea to my dad, he loved it.
I bought an oversized white t-shirt, which I washed, then stretched out to make it longer. I had planned on using baby powder to make myself pale (which, by the way, didn’t work, so don’t try it; I really should’ve used makeup), and didn’t wash my hair to make it look like I had just climbed out of a well.
There was no costume contest, so instead, after the one class I had, I stood by the security desk at the res hall and stared at people through my hair as they walked through the front doors. Everyone did a double take and went, “Whoa, what the heck is that?!” That’s always fun; I love freaking people out.
