This Homemade Scarecrow Halloween Costume was so easy, and we got so many compliments! We started with a hand-me down pair of overalls. Then we took a few patches of material from some older clothes that were now rags! We used hot glue and applied the patches randomly on the back and front of the overalls (the hot glue allowed us to easily remove the patches and return the overalls back to functional clothes afterward!).
We then bought two pieces of yellow felt, one to cut four cuffs, two for the bottom of his pants andtwo for his wrists. We cut the cuffs to look fringed and applied the two to the bottom of his pants with glue. You can either glue the other two to the cuffs of a flannel shirt or hold them in place with a rubber band or hair tie around the wrist!
The second piece of felt we cut a hole in the middle and fringed all around the outer edges! The felt clings to itself, so you don’t need any adhesive or Velcro, just overlap in the back when you put it around the child’s neck and tuck center into the top of the shirt! The only other expense, we went a thrift store where they had a stack of straw hats for 60 cents a piece!
Total expense for this outfit was about $1 and it probably took about 1 hour to assemble!
