My daughter (4yrs) decided she wanted to be wear a homemade scary tree costume this year. She loves things like Mr. Bones and scary creatures etc. We started with a cardboard box cut it down the side and rolled it to give it a trunk shape, cut holes for arms and face. I took coat hangers, wrapped them in newspaper then spray painted them brown. I attached the coat hangers to the inside of the box with duct tape and small piece of tie wire at the top for the branches.
I had a child’s life jacket, that I tie wired to the inside of the box to hold the weight of the costume. I found some brown fabric and used spray glue to attach to the outside of the box. At this point we took a hot glue gun and attached all sorts of creepy crawlers, bugs, rats, snakes and spiders to the outside of the homemade scary tree costume to give it that scary look.
I used some fake orange leaves from my craft box and hot glued them on the some of the branches, just to give the look of fall. Then we took all sorts of skeletons, bats and ghost and hung from the branches. We had purchased a bag of spider rings at the dollar store and attached them to the branches too.
Then I got some brown costume make up for her face, a brown jacket, brown gloves, pants and shoes. She just put the tree on like a coat and off to Trick or Treat.
