We chose to make a Snack Machine Costume for my son’s costume. We used a box that fit his size and a smaller box for the vending window.
The outside box was painted with green and sliver paint and duck tape was used for the corner edges. The front half of the costume was a second smaller box inserted that would make the vending section. We wrapped that piece of cardboard with a silver reflective contact paper, used a round dowel rods cut to width. We covered the “window” with clear wrap to make the “glass” then glued to the box with Gorilla Glue.
We then used plastic slinkies: we slit the back of the box and twisted a few revolutions of slinky through the slot, slightly stretching it to the front of the dowel rods where we hot glued them. We very carefully opened the candy wrappers, removed the candy and glues them back shut. We hot glued the wrappers to the inside spaces of the slinkies – we used 2 wrappers per slinky.
We used foam square to make the letter/number tags. The labels for the PUSH and SNACKS were sliver paint on top of black foam.
The control button panel, we used black and white foam. Little squares were cut out of the white foam and glued to a piece of black foam. The coin slot and the change pocket was more black foam glued onto the box.
Awesome. I am gonna try this for Halloween.
