Coolest Homemade Sonic the Hedgehog Costume

I made this homemade Sonic the Hedgehog costume for my son, whose favorite video character was Sonic the Hedgehog. I used a purchased costume pattern with a front zipper, and just used royal blue and beige knit fabric for the body and arms.

For the tummy I sketched a big oval on the beige fabric, hand-sewed half onto one side of the front of the costume, the other half attaches using four Velcro dots sewn onto the other half of the front (so the tummy oval is all one piece, front zipper hidden underneath). I had to take in the sides of the legs to give Sonic skinnier-looking legs.

The head cover came with the pattern. I added the ears and spikes, using cone-shaped fabric stuffed with fiberfill, slip-stitched to the head. The pattern came with a boot cover that I modified to shoe covers. These were made with red patent-look vinyl fabric, with a 2″ wide strip of white vinyl across the shoe, and a gold lame’ square buckle glued on. Sonic’s white socks were the tops of old tube socks. We purchased white kid-sized gloves for the hands.

  1. My mom and dad made this for me because there is no way to find a sonic the hedgehog costume already made any where in the world my mom said. I loved it and so did everyone else-thanks to my mom and dad it was the best Halloween ever!! I hope you like it.

  2. My apologies for not getting back sooner, but the pattern I used was McCall’s 4951

I used the jumpsuit and hood pieces for Sonic’s body, and the foot section of the boot covers for Sonic’s shoes. I used beige fabric for the arms and used a beige fabric oval for the tummy, attached with velcro squares. Hoping this will be helpful to others in the future.
