This is how I made this Homemade Speed Racer and Trixie Halloween Costume:
Speed – a white golf shirt under a blue golf shirt with the white sleeves rolled up to look like white cuffs and collar (already had shirts). White pants which we had to purchase from a scrubs/medical supply store (white men’s pants are hard to find)! Red socks, red scarf (strip of fabric), gold G on shirt made from felt. Helmet was made from an old kid’s bike helmet we already had, painted white with a red felt M glued on. It was so tiny it could not possibly be worn, only carried! We finally gave up trying to find pale yellow gloves and went with black ones he already had instead.
Trixie – Top I already had; dyed it pink, sleeves altered a bit and pink ribbons added at shoulders. Dark pink Capri pants, already had and pink flats, already had. Red felt M on shirt, brown wig bought 10 yrs ago at Good Will and pink bow in hair.
Only money spent was for white pants, some felt and some red fabric for scarf, maybe $30 total. Part of the appeal of this costume was that I looked totally different with the wig… I have super-short blonde hair, so most people didn’t recognize me as Trixie. The party theme was “Cartoons” and we won Best Couple.
