For Halloween this year our family decided on SpongeBob as our theme. Our oldest wanted a homemade SpongeBob SquarePants Halloween costume.
The framework was made out of ½” PVC pipe. Measurements of the frame was 24” wide at the top, 23” wide at shoulder height section & 20” wide at the bottom (for a taper effect). The depth (side) was 17 ½”. The harness was made from 1 ½” wide course ribbon material wrapped over the shoulder height section of the framework, two pieces from front-to-back & two pieces from left-to-right, creating a pattern that looks like a Tic-Tac-Toe board, with the middle opening being for your head to be inserted into.
Next I fastened the side cardboard pieces (left, right & top) with #10 x ½” wood screws to the PVC frame (drilling a pilot hole first). Then I fastened the front & back cardboard pieces. Followed by sketching the artwork on the cardboard, then outlining it with a black Sharpie.
Then the eyes were cut out and the cardboard painted with Acrylic paint. Next a white needle point plastic sheet was glued to the inside, to cover the eyes opening. The Blue & Black of the eyes were cut out of felt and glued to the white sheet. The shoes were clown shoes (which were red) painted black, for the socks a pair of plain white tube socks were used, the stripes were added with red & blue fabric markers.
Everyone loved this homemade SpongeBob SquarePants Halloween costume and kept stopping us during the parade to get a picture taken with SpongeBob.
