Coolest Homemade Sushi and Soy Sauce Halloween Costume Ideas

Konnichiwa! A bit of black duct tape, packing peanuts, painted foam, and we were set for trick or treat!

The sushi pieces (salmon and egg) were sponges that we cut to look like the actually food, and then painted. The avocado had shiny green vinyl wrapped around the sponge (a little yellow paint was added to make it look more real). We used scraps of the vinyl to make the wasabi earrings (wrapped around a cotton ball and glued to french hooks). The “green” seaweed in the center was cut up doggie baggies. Everything was attached to the cardboard shell using a hot glue gun.

The soy sauce banner was a photo of Kikkoman sauce found online. The photo was edited and printed, then spray mounted to a piece of cardboard. It was attached to a red doggie jacket using hot glue and velcro.

We cut head, arm, and body holes large enough that the costume could accommodate bulky clothes underneath. Perfect for chilly Wisconsin trick or treating. Happy Halloween!

  1. This is an AMAZING costume, let me tell you. I especially like how your dog is the soy sauce! I don’t understand what the outer shell of the sushi is made of. Also, how did you put the front and back of the sushi on the part where you cut the arm, head, and body holes? I’m sorry if you said what I am asking. It’s just not clear to me!

  2. Hey! Awesome costume! Um, I was wondering since my child would like to be this for halloween, if you’re able to sit down in a school desk while wearing the costume? Thanks!!
