Our son really likes Toby and wanted a Homemade Toby the Tram Engine Costume for Halloween in 2009. Fortunately, Toby is pretty simple compared to the other engines in the Thomas series.
We simply took a box, keeping the flaps for the side plates and cow catcher. We glued a rectangular piece of cardboard on top for the the roof, and cut hole for our son’s head and arms. The body of the box was painted brown, and the flaps painted gray. I do vinyl graphics as a hobby/business, so I was able to create the numbers, lamps, handles, and face out of vinyl.
We added some brown construction paper as wood moulding, and magic marker lines for the board separations. Throw in an engineer’s cap and presto!
too cute! my son loves Toby too…what a great costume!
