The actual house took about a week to make. I made it from a cardboard box with the intention of actually floating it with balloons. As I got into it, it got way more detailed, and much heavier. Eventually I realized that I would either need hundreds of balloons, or another way to suspend the house. So using some copper wire and coat hangers, and a whole lot of masking tape, I made a wire frame that held it above my head. I disguised the frame as a hose, like the one Carl Frederickson uses to tow around his house in UP. The only problem was I was about 10 feet tall with the house and balloons, so I was constantly kneeling to get through doorways, and avoiding ceiling fans. It was incredibly uncomfortable, but worth it.
This Homemade UP Halloween Costume was a huge hit, every where I went. Even people who didn’t know who I was supposed to be were stopping me to take pictures.
