I started out making my grandson a fly by just using a black furry coat vest and sewing on the front and the back a shell like a turtle and attaching black wings covered with multi-colored saran wrap. I sewed a black cone on the back so that it looked like a flies’ body.
He wore a pair of black tights and boots and a Hat with two big bug eyes sewed on it. Then my other grandson wanted to be in the parade too so I made him a Venus fly trap. It was very easy to make, I used things I had around the house: a green jumper and a green hooded sweat shirt.
I made a round trap that fit over his head and used foam to make like lips and plastic for the teeth. I connected the flower pot that I made out of a laundry basket directly to the jumper and he painted his face green and wore red gloves to look like the fly trap on his hands. They won 1st place in this homemade Venus flytrap and fly couple costume… judges pick in the local parade.
