My daughter decided this year she wanted to do something different and be scary. We couldn’t find anything that hadn’t been done before, so we decided on making a Voodoo Doll costume.
I took a bed sheet and made a loose outline of her face. I then cut two pieces and hand sewed them along the sides. This was just for detail and, since it was dark, no one really saw it, but it did add to the doll’s stitched-up effect. I then cut out holes for her eyes and hot-glued black ribbon around them, so she could see out of them.
I drew on a mouth and stitched that up with twine as well. I glued Styrofoam to the top of her head, then stuck a wig on top of that to hide it. I was then able to stick knitting needles into her head. I made pigtails out of the wig to make her look more girly.
We got a white shirt and I glued two hearts of different shapes together. I then glued that to the Styrofoam which was glued to the shirt. I then stuck a knitting needle in her heart. We added gloves to the white shirt and I put twine around her wrists and her shoulders to look as if she was stitched up.
When I got the costume on her, I put an extra piece of twine on the back to pull together the sides of her face so it was more form-fitting and less baggy.
great, and I bet looks creepy at night when ‘trick- or-treatin’!! but I wouldn’t use real knitting’ needles. I know how kids are, they’re clumsy and also someone or something could fall into/ onto those knitting’ needles slamming them into their body, God forbid! great job though…
i love this idea is so unique.
