I am roughly 25% Scottish, and have decided to channel my inner Scotsman this year! What better way to display this than a Homemade William Wallace Costume!
After searching local costume stores and coming up short, I decided to get crafty! Off to the Fabric Depot first to dig for the perfect plaid (approx. 2 yards). It had to be relatively earthy in tones in order to pull of an authentic look, and there were TONS to choose from! Right next door to the FD was a Big Lots, perfect for el-cheap-o garb to complete items to be purchased for my costume. There I found a great wig, a furry mop head to use as a crotch patch, and 50¢ worth of rope.
After that it was back to the house where I found a great shirt that looked hand made. I cut all the buttons, sleeves, and collar off, and then bound the shirt in the front with the rope from BL. Last piece I found was in my garage, a very nice brand new utility belt of mine. After removing all the accessories all that was left was a very thick leather belt to tie it all together.
Shirt on… Kilt wrapped and belted… Furry patch fastened… Wig… War Cry!!!
“Freedom”
That is how my William Wallace costume came to be!
