My boyfriend and I were looking up costumes online and wanted to stay away from the typical “hot guy” and “hot girl” costumes. So, I ran across an Oompa Loompa and it was meant to be. We both decided that he’d be Willy Wonka and I’d be the Oompa Loompa. And that worked really well because I’m very short as it is.
For my Oompa Loompa costume, I went to Hobby Lobby and got regular white fabric for my pants and ribbon for the crossed suspenders. After I sewed that, I got a brown turtleneck from the dollar store and sewed the extra white fabric around the neck and colored brown stripes on it. I also bought long white socks and colored brown stripes on that. For the flip flops all I did was glue a little fuzzy ball on the top from Hobby Lobby as well.
For the Willy Wonka costume, my boyfriend found the blazer at Goodwill and a regular purple button-down from Wal-Mart. I bought the lace for his shirt at Hobby Lobby and sewed that next to the buttons. The bow is also ribbon from Hobby Lobby.
We won first place for the Homemade Willy Wonka and Oompa Loompa Couple Costume contest at the party we went to! Hope you all enjoy!
