Coolest Homemade Young Anakin Skywalker Costume

My little boy just discovered Stars Wars. It all started with the day he got a lightsaber. We then watched the original Star Wars trilogy. This inevitably led to Derrick choosing to be a Jedi for Halloween. From there it was online research and Derrick noticed that a picture of the young actor in the new trilogy looks quite a bit like Derrick.

So… Mommy goes a little nuts! I did a bit of thrift store shopping, searching, rummaging and the like to find a fabric that would work. I found a purse with a buckle that looked good and bought a $2 package of pens to convert into food capsules. Many hours of sewing, fiddling with pen caps, hot glue, and nail polish had good results.

Then we needed boots, it would look half baked without the boots, so I broke down and bought a $4 remnant of fake leather and combined them with a pair of old shoes to make some very “Anakin” boots. I was also able to get the belt made from the fake leather which made for a much better match than trying to find or dye ready made belts.

This Homemade Young Anakin Skywalker Costume was a fun one but a bit time intensive especially considering I made more of some of the stuff for a couple of neighbor boys.

  1. I cut down and sewed a women’s linen suit to make it more like a karate gi. It was the right fabric for a more authentic look. I sewed tabards (the strips that go over the shoulder) and fabric belt that goes under the leather one. an easier way to get a similar effect is to tea dye a plain white karate gi and add the tabards and belt (use felt. The boot were the hardest I used a tutorial I found but I don’t remember where- sorry.
