This Halloween costume was inspired by the movie “Zombieland”. Upon seeing the movie, I knew exactly what I was going to create this year for Halloween. After countless views of youtube how to videos and watching all the zombie movies ever created, I finally came up with the design for my homemade Zombie costume.
I started with a range of Ben Nye makeup products: makeup wheels, liquid latex, fake scab blood and neutral set powder. The face and arm were made up of a combination of the above- mentioned products and some good old-fashioned single ply toilet paper. I found the suit coat, dress shirt and tie at a Salvation Army store for $3; I then proceeded to soak them with blood, stab, burn and tear them.
The final touches included some white out non-prescription contact lenses, tooth black, and some black cake frosting which I swirled around in my mouth and then spit out all over for dramatic effect. All the makeup was applied by myself, with the exception of the lenses which were tough to get in.
My background as a high school art teacher helped greatly with the success of my costume, earning me a ton of good scares and second prize in a local costume contest. This was an awesome costume definitely worth the time and patience of putting it all together!
