My daughter wanted to be Jewel from the movie Rio, which is a blue macaw. I did not see any sold so I decided I’ll make my own Homemade Jewel from Rio Costume. I went to Joann’s fabrics and spent about $17. I purchased a periwinkle soft and comfy (I think that is what it was called) fabric and tulle. I got footless legging at Target and I had a turtleneck from WalMart (4 sizes too big so I had to cut down the sleeves and alter it). I made the blue fabric into a vest and put elastic around the arm hole and sewed the bottom to the turtle neck and elastic around that and stuffed in between the two with fluff made a hood sewed it own then put elastic around that too and closed up the top by sewing the blue vest to the turtleneck.
I added eyes eye lashes tulle for the feathers on her head I cut foam down to make a flower sewed tulle on the shirt sleeves and voila. The beak is foam.
That is really neat Kelly. You did a great job. I love it!
This is a wonderful costume. My daughter loves it too. Way to go!!
