My Joker costume. Like the previous Riddler costume added to the site, this Joker costume was made for a band member(my husband).
When starting any new costume especially when I’m unfamiliar with the pattern I always cut a trial costume out in a cheap cotton fabric (calico in Australia). The suit is roughly put together , just enough to be tried on, then its easy for any adjustments to be made to the pattern. You can even just unpick the pieces and use them as the pattern, at least you know they will fit right.
The purple suit is fully lined and the jacket has tails. The pants come up quite high on the waist and braces are worn. On the ends of jacket sleeve I added pieces of green shirt fabric to make it look like the shirt underneath is long sleeve, when really its a short sleeved shirt. The green shirt and a yellow satin vest both made from patterns. The white gloves were bought from a costume shop and the the finger tips removed so he could play bass. An artificial yellow flower was hand sewn to the jacket.
I am not a professional sewer, I have been sewing for a long time. I only sew for family, mostly repairs, I just really love sewing costumes, it feels like you really create something!
