And they are OFF! This Kentucky Derby Race Horse Jockey and Owner Couple Costume is such a FUN costume to be. It did take a lot of work and prep but was well worth it in the end. I had my seamstress make the costumes. I got the brown and white polka dot theme from Pretty Woman movie and just invented the jockey to match. Every jockey has to have his race pony…this was made with a cardboard box and painted by an artist for effect of a “real” horse. I threw on the red lipstick, pearls, and feather piece to my fitted dress with brown belt to give the “perfect combo of southern charm”. :) I love dressing up for Halloween.
I hope you get as much enjoyment of being this unique costume as we did. Carry around a mint julep for a cocktail and have a safe and happy Halloween. The box for the horse is a little uncomfortable. The shoulder straps were nylon and kept cutting in his shoulders. I recommend making WIDER straps. The big derby hat is quite expensive but that really makes the costume.
