My husband loves lighthouses and we have visited quite a few. We also were big LOST fans. So I came up with the idea that I could be the lighthouse and he could be the LOST fisherman seeking navigational help with lighted beacon.
For the lighthouse, I purchased a black hoop skirt and a black turtleneck. I sewed on the white horizontal stripes by hand. For my head, I picked up some Styrofoam shapes – discs and bell, as well as a plastic white rotating police light and went to work on making my rotating beacon. I hot glued the discs together and dug out a hole in the bottom to I could access the on/off switch. I used pencils painted white as braces to hold the bell on. I did have to make a hat that was glued to the bottom of the base so I could tie it on my head.
For my husband’s fisherman costume, I drew out a boat shape on foam core and cut it and painted. I also hot glued it together, found some fishing net at the craft store and slung it over the side along with one those “don’t worry, be happy” singing fish removed from its base. I painted the name of the boat on the back: LOST and the LOST numbers are painted on the side of the boat. My husband wore yellow rain gear and a hat and I put makeup on his face to make him a “weathered” fisherman…
