I was at a loss, I couldn’t find any suitable Beetlejuice costumes for kids so I went to work, with two weeks until Halloween night. I was a little scared because as my daughter was being the Corpse Bride, I wanted her little brother to match so my son, being an avid Jack Skellington fan, I thought hey why not, a Little Jack Skellington Costume.
Almost every night was dedicated to adding a layer of paper mache to get that perfect Jack Skellington head. After 6 layers I used an exacto knife to make the eyes and nose. I bought black pantyhose and stitched them in the inside of the head to cover the eye and nose holes and used to duct tape to secure.
I covered the pantyhose on the outside with newspaper as I applied white acrylic paint to the head, and let dry 24 hours. Then I applied a clear varnish spray to get a cool sheen. I used black sharpie marker for the mouth and traced around the eye and nose holes. I made a tuxedo style black suit and drew white pinstripes with fabric paint. He wore black boots and a white turtleneck with a black bat tie with thin white pinstripes.
This year I am making him an Optimus Prime transforming costume and my daughter is being a beat up Barbie wouldn’t Mattel be proud. Hopefully he will win the local costume contest again.
I wish I would have had a mom who could sew like that! Great job! I’m impressed.
Thank you Claudia for your compliment; you have a great name, OK I confess that is my daughter’s name too
