My daughter, Heidi, has cerebral palsy and is in a wheelchair. One thing she really loves to do is dress up at Halloween time. She goes to a dance for disabled people, a church Halloween party, family parties and she dresses up for work.
For 2 years I thought about making her a Little Mermaid Halloween costume. Since she is in a wheelchair I thought it would be the perfect costume for her. I found some green and purple metallic fabric at JoAnns Fabrics. For the fin, I bought some half inch foam to give it body and I added silver sequins and hot glued on an Ariel Christmas tree ornament. Then I lined the green “skirt” with flannel to make it warmer.
For the purple top, I cut a strip of fabric and gathered it in at the center front and added silver sequins. She wears it over a tan shirt. I found an Ariel wig on line. Then I added a shell necklace and Hawaiian lei.
I have made her several other costumes but she always wants to wear this one.
You made an awsome costume, I guess your daughter really had a fun time with it!
You made a perfect Ariel costume, everything is just right. No wonder it’s her favorite! Happy Halloween!
